![]() You will not be able to find this tour as a part of the offer at your hotel, so organize it yourself and definitely get a taxi to take you there. We smoked a cigar in the shop after the tour and bought plenty of cigars to take home. ![]() We had our own guide who took us around the entire facility, where 4000 people work and an average worker rolls 250-300 cigars a day!!! It was an unforgettabke experience! The shop manager and our guide who was the PR manager were both very knowledgable and helpful. I contacted the factory directly and booked a private tour. Then I looked some more cause I really wanted to surprise my husband with a cigar experience and found out that the largest cigar factory in the world where to this day the caigars are hand-rolled was right there in La Romana, just a couple of hours away from Punta Cana. It turned out it would've been a heck of a drive from Punta Cana and we were advised notbto even dream about just renting a car and driving there on our own. When we picked out Dominican republic as our vacation destination I did everything I could to get us a tour to Chateau de la Fuente near Santoago. The only negatives are they don't give free samples, and they do not allow photography. ![]() Even my wife, who was a bit hesitant, found the tour informative and enjoyable. The stages of that the cigars go through and the amazing variety of people that are behind one cigar is incredible, and did I mention the smell? If you like it when you step into that walk-in humidor at the cigar shop, you will love it here. You'll make your way to the real factory after meeting your guide, and then spend about an hour actually making your way through the largest cigar factory in the world! It was truly amazing to see so many different styles of stogies and brands being rolled, tested, wrapped, cut, aged, cured, cooled, and boxed. There is a small area where they have some folks rolling cigars there, but that is more for show than anything. While the factory itself is within walking distance of the cruise terminal, you have to meet up with your assigned tour guide at their store which is a few miles away in a touristy area. Made reservations online prior to the cruise and hired a taxi there at the pier to stay with us for the duration (about 3 hours total and $50). We were lucky that our cruise ship stopped in La Romana on a Tuesday, because they only offer this behind the scene tour of the factory on Tuesday and Thursday.
